 Chapter One

We bought our boat in 2002, in June, around the 10th.  When we stopped into the B&E Marine in Michigan City we were not really serious about buying a boat.  Our real intentions were to go to the boat show in Chicago in January of 2003 and buy one there.  At first we were not really sure what kind or make we would want.  But that Sunday in June, 2002 we walked in to the Sea Ray show room and started to talk to the salesman we always seemed to talk to, Darrell Nichols, he showed to us a few of the new Sea Rays and then showed us the used boats in inventory we looked at all he had.  We looked at his stock and did not see anything we were interested in.  Then he said that they had just taken in on trade a 1995 Sea Ray 27’ Sundancer but he had not seen it yet and did not know anything about it.  I told him that I didn’t think we would be interested in anything later than a ’99 model.  We talked a bit then we decided to go out back and look at it anyway.  Well when we got there I was really impressed, sitting on a dual axel trailer was this white with blue and gold stripes Sea Ray, When Darrell started to read more about the boat I found out that the boat had a 454 cid engine with a Bravo 3 out drive.  We asked about the name of the boat it was “Perfect Layover” and found out that the boat had belonged to an airline pilot.  As we looked at the interior we could not help notice the seats, carpeting and cushions below were all in perfect condition.  This thing was beautiful and in perfect condition.  Everything was in great shape and condition.  Now I was in a dilemma, between Kathy and I we had five vehicles!  We knew that when Kathy retired in August of that would take care of her squad car and drop us down to four vehicles.  I had a 1993 Saturn SW-1 station wagon I had rigged up as a tow car, I worked part time for Morgan Drive Away driving motor homes across the country.  Kathy had a Silver 1995 Chevy Camaro Z-28 that I just loved to drive.  Then I have a red GMC Jimmy, my first SUV.  The Jimmy had just come off lease and I bought it form the lease company.  Last but not least I had just gotten a 2002 Silverado 2500HD, equipped with all the goodies and a towing package.  Now a few of these vehicles did not have a payment or not much of one.  But still something had to give, not only were we ‘car heavy’ but also the budget was on the weak side.  When I presented my case to Darrell he came right out and said “No problem, we can take a car in on trade.”  That stopped me right in my tracks, now I started to think, which of the vehicles could we trade in?  I looked to Kathy and she had caught the “WE HAD TO BUY THIS BOAT” fever and chimed in with “Lets trade the Camaro”
